   2020: Water and Climate Change

World Water Day 2020 is about water and climate change – and how the two are inextricably linked.
This year's theme  is the same as our 'NYC Water and Climate' event held every year during UN Climate Week, so we're really excited to share this topic with you! Climate change increases variability in the water cycle, inducing extreme weather events, reducing the predictability of water availability, affecting water quality and threatening sustainable development and biodiversity worldwide. Our use of water can help reduce floods, droughts, scarcity and pollution, and will help fight climate change itself. But to do so, national and regional climate policy and planning must take an integrated approach to climate change and water management. Cobalt Water Global is doing exactly that. Founded on the idea of using AI and modeling to reduce GHG emissions and help water utilities become more sustainable, we are passionate to continue our Climate Action work in both the local and global water sector.

World Water Day held on 22 March every year since 1993, is an annual United Nations Observance focusing on the importance of freshwater. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis, and a core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: Water and sanitation for all by 2030. This  year focuses on the challenges, opportunities and potential responses to climate change – in terms of adaptation, mitigation and improved resilience – that can be addressed by enhancing water resources management.

What can the water sector do to affect Climate Action globally? Cities provide significant opportunities for more integrated and sustainable water use and waste management. Using water more efficiently will reduce greenhouse gases, and more efficient use of water within cities and the safe reuse of more waste will put less strain on the surrounding ecosystems.  Increasing water-use efficiency can be done by reducing water losses, such as tackling leakages in municipal distribution networks, and is one of the ways in which Cobalt Water Global has been helping the water sector take action against climate change. Through our TotalWATER AI approach and System Modeling, we've made water management and water distribution systems  more efficient and more sustainable.

Ensuring there are sufficient and safe water supplies for everyone is becoming increasingly challenging, and a major part of the solution is to produce less pollution and improve the way we manage wastewater. The continued availability of safe and sufficient water supplies is inextricably linked to how wastewater is managed. Cobalt Water Global continues it work to support water utility decision makers make better, more sustainable decisions through  Wastewater Treatment Process Modeling and GHG emissions reduction.

Water is the primary medium through which we will feel the effects of climate change, it plays a pivotal role in how the world mitigates and adapts to the effects of climate change.
