Cobalt Water Global was born out of R&D and is continuously investing and engaging in R&D for developing a suite of AI tools for sustainable urban water decision support. Cobalt Water Global has its own innovation research funds, but also pursues co-funding from industry partners, SBIR (USA), and Horizon 2020 (EU). Cobalt Water EU also participates in the funding programs offered by the Flemish Agency for Innovation and Enterpreneurship (VLAIO).
Data collection for developing machine learning N2O models for decarbonizing wastewater treatmentFunded in part by VLAIO through their SME Portfolio program, we invested in data collection at water resource recovery facilities to collect data for use in training machine learning (ML) models for predicting N2O emissions. This helped to provide the foundation of the ML used in our N2ORisk DSS.

Wastewater Treatment Nitrous Oxide Risk ModelIncorporating artificial intelligence techniques, the N2O Risk Model was developed by Porro et al. as part of the SANITAS project at the University of Girona. The N2O Risk Model has been proven in full-scale and is currently being used in practice as part of an overall N2O mitigation roadmap. Now Cobalt Water Global, University of Girona, and Waterboard De Dommel are partnering in converting this GHG mitigation tool into a web-based app for offline decision support and planning, and also for online supervision and control of water resource recovery facilities.
